In the 1940’s, Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal and punishable by law to wear, make, or distribute.
Minnesota-based yarn shop Needle & Skein has reimagined this design for this difficult moment in our history and is selling both a knit and crochet version of the pattern to raise funds for immigrant aid agencies.

Routemaster is a slightly faded red 70% wool, 15% alpaca, and 15% luxurious blend by Rowan. 137 yard (50g) skeins, so 2 will ensure completion of 1 hat, and 3 might allow for making 2 hats.
